Their passion for photography is obvious from the first meeting with Joyce and Randy. Their genuine enthusiasm and relaxed style quickly put you at ease as they prepare to show you a portable presentation of their astounding work.
Randy, a former anthropology and photography major at U.C. Berkeley, worked in video production before becoming a photographer. As a videographer he shot celebrity music events before the opportunity to photograph a wedding came his way. He quickly realized that shooting weddings ignited a spark within him, and he envisioned capturing the visual poetry of the special moments that occur on each wedding day. Joyce’s love for and experience with photography began in college where she studied advertising and fine arts. Serving on the board of directors of a photography gallery in Palo Alto enabled her to learn more about photography, which further inspired her about this art form. When Joyce and Randy came together to start their own wedding photography business in 2001, it was a match made in heaven. Randy’s extensive shooting experience, and Joyce’s artistic design background and incredible project management skills make them a dynamic combination.
Joyce and Randy have an easy-going approach to their photography. They prefer candid shots, even the portraits, so that people never look stiff. As I flipped through their albums, I noticed many great moments that were captured in-between the portraits. Randy explained that they are constantly observing what’s going on, waiting for those special photo opportunities that can occur anytime, which make each wedding unique.
Each wedding they capture tells its own distinctive story. Clients benefit greatly from having both fabulous photographers at the event, as each shoots from a different perspective. I was mesmerized by the beauty of many of their bridal images, to which Joyce remarked that much of her inspiration is drawn from French photography, the romance and pleasure in everyday life. Randy and Joyce integrate the style of the older, renowned fine art photographers into their own to create your own wedding day art.
There is no extra charge for engagement photos prior, as Joyce and Randy look forward to that opportunity to get to know their clients and learn about the special details of the wedding day.
Joyce and Randy have offices in San Francisco and Mendocino, where they shoot numerous destination weddings. When they are not working on weddings, they can be found pursuing good food, wine, and environmental art photography.
