Edie is an East Coast transplant, who fell in love with the beautiful light and the freedom of artistic expression in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her roommate at Virginia Tech introduced her to photography. In search of a more artistic education she transferred to Syracuse University where she received her BFA in photography. A semester in Italy and additional travel through Spain, Portugal, and Turkey acquainted her with European art and history, and influenced her artistic style. Her interests were images of the beauty and grace of Renaissance paintings -- the rich colors, and the use of light and shade. "It is my hope that my images, too, touch the part of us that is eternal and remind us of our inner beauty," she told me.
Given her aspiration, wedding photography was the next logical step. She combines visual art with the celebration's action. Edie still prefers a regular camera and film. For group pictures she suggests black & white to make them look timeless; for pictures where color is key to the story or enriches such objects as the beauty of a bridal bouquet, a tempting food display, or the rich colors of a background, she finds color more appropriate.
"I shoot full frame," she says, which means, with a good eye and pushing the shutter at the right moment, she creates the perfect composition. A groom kissing his bride on the side of the neck shows her sensibility. "I look for the unusual moments that happen when the couple or guests take time for themselves."
Edie's beautiful albums display her work perfectly. Their covers are made of material in different colors and shades. On the front cover is space for a picture, and the spine sports a braided ribbon. Their archival paper inserts are library-bound.
