What an honor! You have been asked to serve as a bridesmaid or even Maid of Honor for the bride’s most significant life event. And of course you want to assist the bride in any way you can. Here are some suggestions about how you can make the bride’s experience more enjoyable and stress-free as she arrives at this most important occasion. Some are dependent on how much the bride wants to oversee these activities herself. But as you learn about her plans, offer to take over some of the tasks involved in getting her down the aisle and on to her new life.

You can help the bride immensely by ensuring that the other female attendants have their dresses fitted, schedule or attend the scheduled hair and makeup appointments, be present for pre-wedding photographs, and notifying them about showers or parties. You could even arrange transportation to the ceremony and reception sites for the entire wedding party.

As far as your personal expenses go, you should be prepared for pay for your own dress and accessories and seek alternatives if this is not possible. Other expenses may involve presenting the bride with a joint gift from all of her attendants. Throw a shower, luncheon, or party for the bride or bride & groom, an expense that can be shared by others involved. As the Maid of Honor or a bridesmaid living locally while others may live elsewhere, you want to act as coordinator of these activities.

There will definitely be a seat for you at the rehearsal dinner, and you may even offer up a toast to the couple. Having reminded the bride to bring them along, make yourself available for the signing of the marriage license and other legal papers as surely you will be asked to serve as a witness.

Before the ceremony, you’ll want to ensure that the bride is packed and ready for her honeymoon and offer assistance with this. And be on hand to help her dress.
While you are reveling in the joy and love during the ceremony, you also want to have an eye toward making all go smoothly. Take the bride’s bouquet to make her hands free for the wedding rituals. Help with her blusher at the appropriate time. And arrange her gown’s train prior to the recessional.

Most important of all, be polite, cheerful, and attentive to the bride from the time you are honored with this position, all the way up to and during the wedding day. Your presence, friendship, and love will go a along way toward helping the bride truly enjoy the most important day of her life.
